September2012

One step better than drinking beer is drinking locally made craft brew when half the night’s pint sales will go to the Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project. The cool folks at Maui Brewing Company have been hosting benefit nights once every three months since 2010.  The benefit starts at 6pm and goes till midnight.

Here is what they have to say for themselves:

The Maui Forest Bird Recovery Project (MFBRP) is a research organization that was created in 1997
by the State of Hawaii Division of Forestry and Wildlife and the US Fish and Wildlife Service. MFBRP’s
mission is to develop and implement techniques that recover Maui’s endangered birds and to restore
their habitats through research, development, and application of conservation techniques. Our main
research is centered on the rare and endangered Maui Parrotbill, or Kiwikiu. This bird is only found high
in the forests of Haleakala, Maui. Banded individuals and resights of these birds are used to determine
territories, pairs, and productivity. This research will guide state and federal recovery actions.

The Maui Brewing Company is located at the Kahana Gateway Shopping Center, just north of Lahaina.
Address is 4405 Honoapiilani Highway, Lahaina, Maui 96761.
